Administered By:  Children and Youth Branch, Department of Public Health (DPH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) provides leadership and direction for local CCHCs.
Description:  Child Care Health Consultants (CCHCs) work out of local health departments, CCR&R agencies or Partnerships for Children, and Head Starts, or they work independently. They provide onsite and telephone consultation to child care providers. Services include assessing the health and safety practices of individual child care facilities, developing strategies for inclusion of children with special care needs, establishing and reviewing health policies and procedures, managing and preventing injuries and infectious diseases, connecting families with community resources, and providing health education for provider staff, families, and children.

In addition to the local CCHCs, one State CCHC supports local CCHCs with technical assistance, training, mentoring, and program service.

The Children and Youth Branch, Department of Public Health, Department of Health and Human Services provides leadership and direction for local CCHCs. The positions are funded by the North Carolina Local Partnerships for Children (Smart Start) and other sources. The State CCHC position is funded by Title V funds.
